The Council of the Maliseet of Viger First Nation is currently composed of a Grand Chief and four Chief Advisors elected by the Nation members, for a four years term, which ending June 2020. The Council’s primary mission is to represent the Nations members by asserting their rights and ensuring their interests. It has a political and administrative role. The Council must ensure sound management of the Nation’s money and assets, and see that its members benefit from all services to which they are entitled to.
The Council works hard towards the Nation’s financial and governmental autonomy. Also, activities and policies are organized to increase awareness and perpetuate the Nation’s culture and traditions.
